Himalayan Education Foundation (HEF)  is a small, dynamic, not for profit organization that focuses on strengthening communities in the Uttrakhand State of the Indian Himalayas.

HEF’s approach is multi-faceted, working very closely with local leaders to develop and provide opportunities for adults and scholarship support and curriculum development for village schools.  HEF’s work strives to meet the unique needs of each mountain community.

This approach led HEF to respond to the invitation from the women of Chakouri and Munsiyari to help them expand their economic independence. Himalayan Naari fits perfectly with the HEF mission, which is to

• Empower women and girls as the foundation of strong communities.
• Provide support for learning in academics, technology, vocational training, and life skills.
• Promote healthy nutrition in the communities.
• Invest in the economic independence of local communities.
• Develop long-term relationships with local leaders, learning from and partnering with them.
